Brazil Overview

Rio de Janeiro, Wildlife of the Pantanal and Amazon, Iguassu Falls, Beaches and Islands, Bahia

While each of the South American countries differs greatly from the next, Brazil is perhaps the one with the most individual identity.

Of course it’s huge – the continent’s largest country in both land mass andBeaches of Brazil population – and its residents speak Portuguese rather than Spanish. But is that enough to differentiate it so? Perhaps it’s the vast length of Atlantic coastline, measuring over 4500 miles, which influences the culture and attitude of this fascinating nation… but to focus on that would mean overlooking the diversity inland; the cities, the jungle, the wetlands.

Evocative images and famous names abound in relation to Brazil: the girl from Ipanema, Pele, Ronaldo, Gisele, spectacular beaches, and surely the world’s most famous party. What other city on the planet conjures up such vibrant and enticing images as Rio de Janeiro?

But Brazil is about more than samba, sunshine and caipirinha cocktails, although they are a pretty unbeatable combination. Away from the tropical islands, the beaches and the parties, you’ll find superb wildlife in the Pantanal and the Amazon; colonial architecture and African culture in Bahia, trekking in pristine countryside in the interior, and, throughout; a friendly welcome and a fun-loving attitude.

With the World Cup coming to Brazil in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016, all eyes will be on the country as it prepares and invests enormous amounts in its infrastructure.

What to expect from your holiday to Brazil: With such large distances, and so much to see, a Brazilian itinerary needs careful planning to avoid too much tiring travel. Internal flights are excellent and frequent and we’ll plan your route carefully so that you achieve the right balance of exploration and relaxation. The standard of hotels in Brazil, particularly in Rio and at the coast, is extremely high, and prices reflect this.
