Best Time to Visit Guatemala

When to visit the fascinating landscapes and intriguing cultures of Guatemala....

Guatemala is a magical and fascinating place, with so much to do. Those who are into nature will find some amazing volcanoes, black beaches along the Pacific Coast and landscapes that will simply take your breath away. If youChicabal Volcano, Guatemala prefer to experience more ‘man made’ feats, there are unmissable, remote, ancient archaeological sites and historic cities or even the mystical markets. Whether you are looking for a long or short trip, Guatemala is a great destination, guaranteed to take you to a huge range of spectacular places, filled with the most intriguing cultures. Visit small beach towns or remote Maya villages, find yourself a bargain in Central America’s oldest and biggest market in Chichicastenango or explore the pristine lakes, jagged mountains and deep ravines across the ever changing landscape that characterises this incredible country.

Climate: Despite the rainy season, the weather remains nice in Guatemala all year round. Coastal areas are warmer than the highlands and nights are generally quite cool throughout the year. The rains arrive in Antigua and the highlands in about May and last until October, so the best months to visit Guatemala are ideally from November until April. That being said, the rains usually only last a few hours a day and the climate is still pleasant, so trips are still possible at this time. December and January are the coolest months and have a great ‘crisp’ feeling with clear blue skies. The steamy jungle of the El Petén region, where Tikal is located, is always humid with just about 11 degrees centigrade difference between the average summer and ‘winter’ temperatures. Semana Santa (Easter week) is of utmost significance in Guatemala and its religious processions and street decorations make it a fantastic but busy time to visit. If you wish to visit around this time, booking in advance is essential as prices do increase.
