Mexico Overview
Aztec & Mayan Culture and Archaeological Sites, Caribbean & Pacific Beaches, Colonial Cities and Indigenous Highlands
Something of a chameleon, Mexico has so many faces that it can meet the needs of most types of traveller. Sun-worshippers make for the beaches of Baja California and the Caribbean, archaeologists and historians for the Aztec
and Mayan sites, honeymooners hide away in upmarket beach cabañas on the Pacific coast, and urbanites lose themselves in the capital’s immense sprawl. If you’d like to see something of everything, give us two weeks of your time and we’ll give you a fantastically diverse holiday in return.
For a start, opinion is always divided as to whether Mexico forms part of North or Central America. Naturally its northern regions have the strongest influence from the United States while its colonial heartland and the indigenous culture of the southern highlands couldn’t be more different. Perhaps suffering slightly from its mainstream image as a package holiday destination, Mexico has so much more to offer than just the sun and sea of Cancún.
As your plane descends sharply through the mountains into the valley that just about manages to contain Mexico City, you’ll be arriving into the fifth (some say the third) largest metropolitan area there is. Prepare to be dazzled by its combination of the ancient with the very modern, a juxtaposition which continues throughout the country. You can stay in utmost luxury in Baja and
move on to visit remote rural settlements around Chiapas; even the ruins of the Mayan walled city of Tulum now stand cheek by jowl with designer hotels and tastefully luxurious eco-resorts.
Although it is such a large country with such a broad range of attractions, Mexico can be enjoyed relatively easily in ten days or two weeks: more if you have the time to relax and luxuriate at one of the superb coastal properties. We will tailor your trip to match your particular interests and preferences, be they history and archaeology or kayaking and scuba diving, so that everybody’s experience of Mexico is very different.
What to expect from your Mexico Holiday: With a long-established tourism industry, Mexico is well prepared to meet the needs of the most demanding of visitors from the USA and Europe. You’ll find every standard of hotel imaginable and flights and road journeys are professional and straightforward. Naturally there is a big difference between services in the larger cities or the beach resorts and the more rural areas, but overall your experience should be of consistently high quality.
